In Language Arts this year, we will be covering a variety of literary topics that will be mostly covered through novels and short stories.

Just a couple of the novels that we will be reading together as a class include:
  • The Witches by Roald Dahl
  • Freak the Might by Rodman Philbrick
We will be centering our vocabulary, and comprehension skills through the above novels and various genres of literature.  These genres include realistic fiction, non-fiction, poetry, dramatic literature, historical fiction, fantasy, myths, and folk tales. Some will be found in various supplementary materials.

We will be using a Words Their Way spelling program from Pearson. Students will have spelling lists and assignments/activities related to their spelling list. They will also be strengthening their spelling skills with practical applications such as, analogies, proofreading, alphabetical order, dictionary skills, language connections, etc.

We will be reinforcing grammar skills, particularly, parts of speech through the Houghton-Mifflin English textbook.

Students will be focusing on the following: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, and interjections.
